Sprinting Towards the Future of Digital Dentistry

Sprinting Towards the Future of Digital Dentistry

In this episode of the Decoding Digital Dentistry podcast, Dr. Ahmad Al-Hassiny chats with Amir Mansouri, the CEO of SprintRay, a key player in the 3D printing industry for dental applications. They discuss the humble beginnings of SprintRay and its entrance to the dental market in 2016 due to a successful Kickstarter campaign. The co-founders, 3D printing experts from the University of Southern California, initially focused on high-resolution 3D printers. Amir outlines the advancements in 3D printing and its growing appeals to dentists who see the value in in-house manufacturing. The company's future plans include further investment in R&D to make the printers 'microwave easy' and improve the material science aspect, making it easier to print with more variety in shade and translucency. Additionally, SprintRay is investing in software and automation, anticipating a future where digital dentistry is as common as a dental chair in every practice.

The Quest for Efficient and Integrated Digital Workflows in Dentistry

The Quest for Efficient and Integrated Digital Workflows in Dentistry

Simplifying Digital Dentistry Through Integrated Workflows

As dental practices transition to modern digital systems, they often end up with fractured frameworks cobbling together disconnected equipment, software programs, and patient data scattered across various devices. Dentsply Sirona set out to streamline this complex landscape by developing integrated platforms like DS Core to consolidate and simplify workflows.

Centrally securing data in the flexible cloud, DS Core alleviates device-dependence limitations. Remote access and real-time communication also smooths collaborations between practices and labs. Rather than continually transferring files, it facilitates a unified “Netflix-like” ecosystem to view patient information as needed.

Starting with infrastructure to aggregate and manage data, DS Core’s roadmap focuses on layering modular apps to expand functionality over a 10-step vision. Future capabilities aim to integrate AI-assisted diagnostics, personalized treatment planning options, 3D-printing integration, and enhanced practice communications.

Built cloud-native, rapid modifications respond directly to user patterns without extended updates required for on-premise softwares. This means dental teams access the latest apps matching their modern needs as soon as they’re live – using cutting-edge features by default within the browser-based system.

While some companies envision automation entirely replacing human roles, Dentsply Sirona sees AI as pivotal for amplification rather than full substitution. Technologies like machine learning should enhance expertise, taking over repetitive tasks for efficiency gains while specialists focus on higher-order critical thinking and complex decision making.

Though resin-based 3D-printers fall short of milled ceramic durability, Primeprint aims to automate steps like post-processing for viable supplemental capacity producing temporary items. Alongside mainstay equipment like CEREC for permanent restorations, strategic printing can provide speed and economic advantages when ideal materials are selected for targeted applications.

Overall DS Core sets the foundation to unlock simplified integration of the digital workflows essential for dentistry’s future. And continuous cloud-based updates will smooth frequent innovation cycles adapting the latest AI assistance tools to amplify connectivity. Consolidating data and devices promises to amplify efficiency by simplifying complex systems.
